Learn About Medicinal Plants in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona

Join us for an immersive plant walk in the beautiful Superstition Mountains, located in the far eastern Phoenix Valley, to explore the medicinal and edible plants of the region. For thousands of years, the Sonoran Desert has generously provided food, medicine, and shelter to the original peoples of this land. Did you know that approximately 60% of our desert plants have medicinal properties?

    What You Will Learn

    • Identification of medicinal and edible desert plant species
    • Medicinal properties, preparation methods, and practical uses
    • Interactions and contraindications
    • Historical significance, folklore, and ethnobotanical insights
    • Principles of ethical foraging and wild harvesting

    Requirements

Participants must be able to comfortably walk at least one mile over uneven, rocky desert terrain while carrying their own supplies.

This is an outdoor event; please dress appropriately for desert conditions, including protective clothing. Closed-toe shoes (preferably hiking boots) and a water bottle are mandatory. Hats and sunscreen are strongly recommended.

Bring necessary personal medical supplies (aside from basic first aid). If you have bee allergies, please carry an epi-pen. Participants arriving unprepared (e.g., sandals or without water) will not be permitted to join the walk

Liability wavier must be signed BEFORE arrival, and can be found in your course page after signing in to the website.

Note that there are no restroom facilities at the site, so please plan accordingly.

We will not be foraging or collecting plants during class.

Herbal products created by Desert Moon Botanicals will be available for purchase at the end of your walk.
